Black Maternal Health EXPO

The WOW Flower Project committee is actively planning a “Women’s Health Expo” to inform and educate the community regarding chronic health disparities that affect African American women in SPA 1. In addition, the “Women’s Health Expo” will encourage routine health maintenance and consumer advocacy for quality health care.

The “Women’s Health Expo” committee is comprised of African American health care providers who live in our community, such as RN’s, an LVN, Postpartum educators, Holistic practitioners, and other concerned community leaders.

We are concerned regarding negative health outcomes experienced by Black Women in the Antelope Valley and want to provide better health care options for our families to live better lifestyles and thrive.

We are focusing on Black Women and their overall health care throughout the health care continuum. We are highlighting Maternal Health, Climacteric health, Mental Health, alternative and safe health care options, nutrition and celebrating the history of Women in the medical field locally.

As you know the Antelope Valley has the highest rates regarding health disparities of African American families in all of Los Angeles County.

Maternal death,     poor maternal health, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, obesity, and heart-related diseases in the Antelope Valley are at the highest of all in LA County.  SPA 1 and the highlighted issues.

We will focus on providing educational sessions, outreach and access to resources to the participants of the “Women’s Health Expo”.

The “Black Maternal Health Expo” will also host a pregnancy pageant, which will highlight advocacy during pregnancy, birth plans, exercise, nutrition, maternal mental health, even a photoshoot, and dance performance!
